Two weeks and one day after my discharge from St Vincent's Hospital, St Luke's Hospital, where I am to receive my pre-operative treatments, finally rang to call me in for my 'simulation.' This is where they take measurements of my body to determine the exact dosages of radiation that I will receive. All being well, the actual treatments should start shortly thereafter.
What's always puzzled me is the definition - can't they derive the volume from the displaced water in a bath? What ever happened to Eureka!? What's with all the measurements?
Speaking as someone who had a kidney scan in a paper wrap and then had to ascend the vast Georgian marble staircase in Vincent's to *have* the scan done - with my back to the breeze (and any waiting patients) - unnecessary exposure if you ask me - not how I'd envisaged my debut into Dublin society ...
