The thing that depresses me most about this cancer at the moment is not the forthcoming rigours of the treatment I will have to undergo but the monotony of my diet. Since I cannot swallow solids of any kind I am on a liquid diet consisting of fortified drinks. It's the same bloody thing day after day. Meanwhile, I'm surrounded by adverts for pizza, burgers and and other forms of food. Hopefully, once the treatments start and the tumours start shrinking things should improve.
Have you been given things to eat (ie drink) or are you having to fend for yourself?
If the latter, there's protein powders from healthfood shops that you can blend with fruits to make smoothies. Don't know if that's the sort of thing you like, though.

The hospital dietitian gave me a prescription for energy drinks, protein drinks and so on so I'm not fending for myself. It's just that there is so little variety. I am now heartily sick to death of Calshakes, Calogen and Fortijuce.

Will they let you have soup? Even clear consomme or something? There's still no texture but at least the taste should be better.

It's not so much a question of 'letting me' as it is a question of me getting 2400 calories and 80g of protein per day. Because of my swallowing problem, the only way to achieve that is through specially enhanced drinks and it's just there is so little variety when what I really want is a steak.
