While NASA boffins try to reestablish control over Spirit, the second rover, Opportunity, has successfully landed on the other side of Mars and sent back images of the Mare Planum. Unlike Gusev Crater, where Spirit touched down, Mare Planum has no strewn boulders but does have what looks to be a rock formation which scientists believe could be exposedbedrock.
Meanwhile, scientists at JPL believe they have isolated the problem with Spirit and hope to solve it, however, it may take up to three weeks to resolve the problem. [Martian Soil]
